Title:             Education Assistant
Department: Community School
Status:          Permanent, Full Time 
Pay Grid:       Professional ($38,038 to $53,599 per year)
Reporting to: Elementary Vice Principal

Summary of Duties:

The Education Assistant will follow the daily schedule of the class they are assisting.  Responsibilities will include, but not limited to morning, recess, lunch supervision; math and reading programs; and other classroom duties.

Key Deliverables and Expectations:

  • To provide student assistance in and out of class under the direction of the Elementary Vice Principal.
  • Working with other professionals.
  • Ensuring a reporting format is established and maintained.
  • Keep a daily journal.
  • Ability to follow instruction as outlined in student improvement plan.
  • Perform other related duties as requested.

Experience and Attributes:

  • Must have Grade 12, ECE or other related certificates, diploma an asset.
  • 2+ years of experience working with kids.
  • Experience working with special needs children/youth an asset.
  • Some knowledge of child development.
  • Some understanding of behaviour problems would be an asset.
  • B.C. Standard First Aid Certificate for working with young children (recommended but not mandatory).
  • Able to foster professional relationships between teacher and parents to support students’ best interest and to work.
  • Knowledge of Lil’wat culture an asset.
  • Must be able to provide a clear criminal record check, including the vulnerable sector.
