Summary of Duties:
Under the direction of Lil’wat Employment and Training (LEAT) Manager, the Program Mentor - Early Childhood Education Program, will work out of Ts'zil to ensure our Early Childhood Education students are supported. LEAT, has partnered with School District 48 to offer two ECE courses for High School students. The courses will primarily be online; however there will be an in a classroom portion one day per week with the Program Mentor - ECE.  The Program Mentor - ECE will be in the classroom to assist the students with their homework, class work and to act as a guide. 
 
Key Deliverables and Expectations:

  • Provide quality support to students by guiding, encouraging, and supervising students to learn to work with children both indoors and outdoors.
  • Keep up to date with early childhood education and advocacy developments.
  • Support students to learn to ensure all operational policies are established and followed in accordance with the Provincial Child Care Licensing Board, and Community Care Facility Act.
  • Assist students to plan, carry out, and assess developmentally appropriate activities and experiences for children in harmony with the center’s philosophy.
  • Advise students to ensure guidance of children’s behavior that encourages positive self-concept.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
 
Experience and Attributes:
  • Previous relevant work experience is required.
  • Early Childhood Educator certification.
  • Understanding of Lil’wat culture & language an asset.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
  • Ability to work independently and as a leader in a classroom setting.
  • Motivated self-starter and with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Highly professional in all aspects of business, presentation and interaction with all stakeholders, clients, and Members.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information related to the students.
  • Must be able to provide a clear criminal record check, including the vulnerable sector.
